Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt? - The first question everyone asks

Yep, but it’s so quick. Someone you know has done it and survived, we promise you will too.The treatment process feels much like a snap from a rubber band. Post removal/fading you will feel like you have a mild sunburn which lasts a couple days. Reno Tattoo Removal uses the best form of pain relief in the form of a zimmer/ chiller.

The Zimmer blows sub zero air on to the treated area pre treatment , during treatment and post treatment. The zimmer provides much less discomfort during treatment. A drug free alternative without the need for painful injections or topicals. We have done thousands of treatments and everyone has their own rhythm, we will guide you through and help find yours.

If you decide you need a topical for pain, we do offer one. It is applied an hour to 90 minutes before the treatment. We do encourage most people to do it without at least the first time. Most sessions are under a couple minutes.

Will it remove the tattoo completely?

Yes! There are many factors that affect the tattoo removal process. 100% removal is very possible with the right treatment plan.

What are the risks?

Tattoo removal risks are very minimal, but do include the possibility of hypo or hyper pigmentation depending on skin type and scarring. With modern laser technology and proper technique these risks are dramatically reduced. Any questions you have regarding these risks will be addressed in your consultation.

Will it scar?

Nope. we haven’t scared anyone. There are possible low risk side effects such as temporary skin changes. BUT, that is not the norm and is almost always caused by aftercare/sun exposure.

How much will it cost to find out the price of a treatment?

FREE!We offer free text consultations, as well as in office consults. Send us a picture so we can chat. 775-200-0623

It’s important to us to provide our clients with a clear tattoo removal treatment plan that aligns with their unique goals. As such, our consultations are always free with zero obligations.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed to safely and effectively remove/fade your tattoo depends on many different factors.

1. Color and concentration and of the tattoo – You may be surprised to hear that black ink is the easiest to remove, while green and blue inks tend to be the most difficult.
2. Health – The healthier the person the faster the results, as removal depends on the strength of a person’s immune system.
3. Location – Tattoos closer to the center of the body have faster results due to the fact they are closer to the lymphatic system. It’s important to have a consultation to determine the approximate amount of treatments that will be needed.
4. Type of ink and application. Over time and a lot of experience, we have come to understand that not all ink or type of needles used are the same. Pigmented inks are just that. Highly concentrated inks made to last forever. Tattoos done with liners are applied thicker, deeper, and denser than other tattoos. This doesn’t mean it won’t go away, it’s just something to consider when we do your consultation.

Where is Reno Tattoo Removal located?

Reno Tattoo Removal is located at 425 Marsh Ave. In the midtown area , the street over from California Ave. We offer a private and comfortable environment for our clients without the Med spa feel.

How do cover-ups work?

One of our favorite things. We lighten your tattoo until you and your artist decide that it’s ready to be covered. This helps you get the tattoo you actually want, without having to compromise and get a big black panther or giant flowers. Most people who go this route need 2 to 3 sessions…less sessions…less money…and you get a new tattoo. Win Win. We will work with you and your artist to get you what you want.

Can you remove tattooed or micro-bladed eyebrows?

YES!!! We have special training for permanent and semi permanent makeup, as well as use a laser that can effectively remove unwanted ink off your fragile skin. Most micro blading is superficial and comes out very easily, 2 to 4 sessions. Permanent makeup done with a machine can vary anywhere from 3 to 6, but a personal consultation prior to laser will help you understand exactly what you need.

What is the Quanta Q-plus laser?

Lasers are highly sophisticated pieces of equipment. Like computers, technology changes rapidly and a laser even five years old is incapable of providing the best and least invasive treatment. Modern lasers are capable of providing amazing results without having to break the skin, greatly reducing discomfort.

Reno Tattoo Removal’s laser, the Quanta Q plus, is state of the art. It has a very unique profile that eliminates having to overlap aka “heat stacking”. This means dramatically less discomfort for the client. In addition, Reno Tattoo Removal is dedicated to staying up to date with their laser technology, providing our clients with the most comfortable removal possible.

Why is the Quanta Q Plus C the BEST?

Using the Quanta Q Plus C Laser, the best laser available, a laser pulse is aimed at the tattoo and passes harmlessly through the skin. The laser targets the tattoo pigment, leaving the surrounding skin virtually untouched. The energy from the beam is transferred to the ink which breaks into small particles and is removed from the body by the immune system.

There has been a tremendous change in techniques for tattoo removal over the past 25 years. Initially, removal involved either actual removal of the tattoo by surgical means or damaging the overlying skin in an effort to hide them. All of these methods had the drawback of scarring and an unsightly appearance. This changed with the development and use of lasers which target the tattoo pigments.

These lasers initially caused skin damage while the tattoo was removed. Now lasers are designed that minimize skin effects, target specific color groups, and provide more rapid tattoo removal.

Dr. Gary Chuang, Tufts University says:

“Like other Q-switch lasers in the market, the Q-Plus C with its multiple wavelengths is both powerful and reliable laser. It is my laser of choice for tattoo removal and treatment of lentigines. My patients love the results!”
